Invisible Children
Later, I became more informed about world wide issues. I found out more about the issues in Uganda. People there are suffering under a government controlled by rebels. There is a lack of food, education, and health care. Uganda is not the only place suffering, there are other countries in Africa, such as Sudan, that are in a similar situations.
I believe that everyone should have access to food, education, and health care. I think that not many people are aware of what is happening in the world. I except that more will get done if people began to donate money, or help people by volunteering their time like doctors, and educators have done. (I know not everyone will be able to donate, or even help in someway). Also, maybe places like schools, and big businesses could hold fundraisers to raise money to help these people. I believe that some countries need aid of well developed nations in order to solve issues in their own country.
Hopefully Uganda, and many other countries will be able to work out the problems in their country, and create a government that will help the people.

Christmas in the Park

On Saturday December 20th, Lorita, Kim, Isaac, and I volunteered at Christmas in the Park. Kim and I worked in the souvenir booth from 6-10. Lorita and Isaac worked from 2-10 - 8 hours! They looked so tired when I got there but they were still hyper like always. :) At 6 Kim and I replaced Lorita and Isaac at the souvenir booth, and they went to work at the food booth. Working in the booth was so easy, and fun. When we had a customer we helped them, but most of the time, we just talked, and joked. We met a lot of interesting people. The scariest one was this lady looking for the bathroom. She asked us where the bathroom was but both Kim and I were clueless, so we told her to ask the booth next to us, and she said "No, I'm asking you." I was so shocked. That was the only bad experience, otherwise it was pretty fun. After 10 Lorita, Kim, and I hung out for a while (Isaac went home). Then Lorita's aunt, and mom picked us up, and we went home.

Sick

All I wanted this week was for my illness to go away. I've been sick for over a week now. I should have just stayed home, but I couldn't miss a day this week because finals are next week, and my teachers were going to tell us what to study. My fever wouldn't go down from 100˚F, and my headaches were long lasting. Currently my temperature is 98.3˚F, and I don't have a headache. But one thing is still bothering me, my cough. I HATE having a sore throat - I hate this a tingling feeling that won't go away. I wish I had something to scratch the inside of my throat. Not only is my cough hurting my throat, but also some of my muscles. I feel like the women in the picture.

Don't Panic
All that we fought for, --------------------> All the wars we fought
And homes, places we've grown, -------> All the homes, and buildings we've built
All of us are done for. --------------------> All of us are gong to die.
And we live in a beautiful world, (While watching the video I see natural disasters, and Yeah we do, yeah we do, causes of global warming)
Bones, sinking like stones, --------------> People are sinking (falling)
All that we fought for, --------------------> All the wars we fought
And homes, places we've grown, -------> All the homes, and buildings we've built
All of us are done for. --------------------> All of us are gong to die.
And we live in a beautiful world, (While watching the video I see natural disasters, and Yeah we do, yeah we do, causes of global warming)
We live in a beautiful world, ( I think he's saying that we live in a beautiful world, but will it stay like that?)
And we live in a beautiful world, (While watching the video I see natural disasters, and Yeah we do, yeah we do, causes of global warming)
There's nothing here to run from, --------> This is something we can't get away from
Cause, yeah, everybody here's got somebody to lean on.---> You're not alone.

House is vitriolic

The word that describes House the best is vitriolic. He's so bitter, and sarcastic. The first time I heard vitriolic I thought of House! (I know its random. But the best way for me to learn new vocabulary is to link it to someone, or something!) And back to House, some people don't really like the show. But I find it entertaining. If I were to meet a person like House, I would probably tell him to shut up! People think that his sarcasm is rude, I think that sometimes it is rude, but sometimes it's funny! It's funny when he's sarcastic with his interns! His sarcasm is sometimes bitter. That's why I describe him as vitriolic. (Maybe he should just shut up sometimes!)

Cross-cultural Ignorance and Gullibility
People have trouble accepting, and learning about a culture which they are not part of. People are consumed by stereotypes, which make them gullible. I came across this type of problem again this year. One of my friends had henna tattoo on her hands, and people kept on asking her stupid questions like “Are you getting married?” Some of my friends were questioning her and I could see that she was annoyed, so I stepped in and said “Yeah, didn’t you know. She’s going to leave us once she graduates.” Though I was trying to be sarcastic, my friends took me seriously. When I told them that I was joking, they looked embarrassed. At that moment I realized how gullible my friends were, and how uneducated they were about the Indian Culture. People still think that Indians are primitive. When they hear “India” they immediately think “snake charmers” or “Gandhi." When I was in elementary school, people used to point to the middle of their head, and call me “Gandhi." They said “Gandhi” as if he was a horrible guy. They did not understand that Gandhi did not only help India, but also the US. Martin Luther King Jr., deeply influenced by Gandhi. Martin Luther King Jr.’s ideas about the civil rights movement were greatly influenced by Gandhi. Another aspect about India people don’t understand is that India is a multicultural nation. People used to ask me why I wasn’t wearing a dot on my forehead. When I told them I was a Sikh not Hindu, they refused to understand, and continued to ask me. India is home to many religions not only Hinduism. India also has Christians, Muslims, Sikhs, etc. This makes me question diversity in the US. I’m not saying that nobody understands, many people do understand This does not apply to everybody, and sometimes people come across gullible trying to be understanding of a culture and trying not to be judgmental.
